Smashed Frog is up for Post of the Year over at South Florida Daily Blog.
Nominee 6. Revisiting Ted Bundy.
But before I shamelessly continue my plug for your vote, allow me to mention an interesting point made by Ecolux over at BlogCatalog.
I voted for you. Terrible how Bundy impacted the lives of so many of us in college in Florida at the time. I had trouble finishing school, switched to night school because I couldn't sleep! Very strange time. Wouldn't be the same today with Twitter and all the support we could have!
With all the technology available now, would Bundy have been apprehended quicker and would women have been alerted more expeditiously? More importantly, would young women have listened and taken the necessary precautions to engage in more discriminating social behavior?
I would imagine--once the crime scene photos were leaked and forwarded via camera phone, computer, lap top or whatever else we've got going out there--the answer is a most definite yes.
Or a most definite, I certainly hope so.
On with the Frog's shameless promotion....
Scroll down to the end of the listed nominees and think about pulling down the screen and voting for SF. Saturday, January 31st is designated as the last day to vote.
While over at SFDB, stick around and read a few posts by a few of Florida's best bloggers. I'm hanging out in the high cotton and believe me, I appreciate the inclusion!
Cast your vote here.
And thanks for considering--and reading--Smashed Frog.

ya see how that sword cuts both ways??? instant notification for THE FEW FREAKS?? constant f'ing with for the maligned and more or less innocent citizens.
I really don't feel the need to KNOW EVERYTHING in that fashion. I have never minded the long, slow discovery. Sometimes a painful discovery is better couched in bits and pieces.
Did I have to mention I'll run over and vote? of course. But, I don't think it's your best work. I hope it brings attention to the rest of your work concerning sex offenders.
Good luck !
I don't believe that Bundy would have been caught any quicker with or without technology. People in general do not care about what happens to others, only to things that directly affect their pitiful lives. Unless they can put their finger on a 'perp', they will usually continue along not caring until it comes calling to their lives directly. Bundy was caught because he got stupid. It wasn't the police that caught him, his own actions did.
That said, I am not at all condoning what the man did; Only making a point about people in general.
Voxy, you are the best...:)
I too hope the Bundy piece is drawing people to the site and educating first time Froggers to the offender issue.
I guess what I meant about the technology is not so much alerts by law enforcement, but by young people themselves, passing warnings via high tech the way we might have passed notes?
But as anon indicates, many think only of themselves and if I recall the late '70s accurately, most of us considered ourselves immortal and figured nothing bad would ever happen to any of us.
