"As It Is...As It Should Be"

"...America should be a place where you can make it if you try.

And Barack stood up that day, and spoke words that have stayed with me ever since. He talked about "The world as it is" and "The world as it should be." And he said that all too often, we accept the distance between the two, and we settle for the world as it is -- even when it doesn't reflect our values and aspirations. But he reminded us that we also know what our world should look like. He said we know what fairness and justice and opportunity look like. And he urged us to believe in ourselves -- to find the strength within ourselves to strive for the world as it should be. And isn't that the great American story?

It's the story of men and women gathered in churches and union halls and high school gyms -- people who stood up and marched and risked everything they had -- refusing to settle, determined to mold our future into the shape of our ideals."

Larry Hales with the activist group Recreate 68 said his group did nothing wrong Monday and had a permit for the Civic Center gathering when police closed in and created havoc. (snip)

Kenzie said she wanted to leave but police had surrounded the group and there was no way out.

"At one point we didn't know what we were going to do, we were going to get arrested or maced," said the recent Community College of Denver graduate.

Kenzie said police never asked for her identification(snip)

I understand democratic process, so don't get my next comment wrong.

Why is it though that some Hillary supporters find the need to jump ship to McCain? Is it that they feel hurt that the movement of the Michigan and Florida was not against the rules? Whether you like it or not, I find it would have been a long row to hoe for Democrats to get Hillary elected. Too many fence sitters would have jumped to the other side, not voted at all, or would have written in Mickey Mouse as their next president if Hillary was the only choice. Yes, The Clintons did do several things during the first administration that helped America. They also did several things to hurt us as well. Bill is the first president of alot of this generation's voters remember. They remember Monica, White-water, impeachment. Few remember the policies, and thus Hillary would have had a hard road to the White House in the end.

To say that Obama stole the candidacy, or was chosen by the powerful in the DNC is ludicrous. He won the primaries by votes that were cast correctly and at the proper time. If anything, Hillary supporters need to be mad at the state DNC groups that moved the primaries in FL and Mi.

I think that Obama is going to be a heck of a President. People claim he is too inexperienced, or not in touch. I doubt either of these are true. Teddy Roosevelt was not all that experienced, neither was Lincoln, yet both of these two were good leaders, with strong policies.

I think we forget that it is not so much the president, but his advisors that really lead the nation. Not one person could have such knowledge to make the proper decision at any given moment, but with good people behind him/her a good leader can be trusted to receive the facts and make a proper decision based on them.

We have seen over the last 8 years how poor leadership, poor advisors, and corruption can negatively affect this country. How can anyone look at McCain, another 'old school' Republican, and believe that we would get any different direction is beyond me.

I completely agree with you, Anon. And I wouldn't put it past the Republicans to be behind the set up of the online faux "Hillary for McCain" websites.
