The Coattails of Barack Obama

While the media spins Hillary's attempt to make herself look Presidential through her allusion (or illusion) that the Big Girl would consider Barack Obama as a VP running mate...(although her recent Super Tuesday II delegate win was just slapped down by Don't Think So Wyoming)...
....the rest of us can take a break from this Dream On mentality to consider one political earthquake of a reality check.
Democratic newcomer Bill Foster rocked yesterday's IL-14 special election by winning the red state red seat, previously held by Dennis Hastert.
Considered a solid Republican seat, the "stunning margin" by which Foster won over opponent Jim Oberweis is considered nothing short of a miracle.
With all precincts reporting, Foster defeated Oberweis 53 to 47%.
Barack Obama--who endorsed Foster--is credited with "not just for cutting an ad for Foster and helping with the GOTV effort, but also for proving that his coattails can help even a political newcomer win in a red district."
Nothing makes a rank and file Democrat Super Delegate sit up and bark woof faster than the glitter of proven influential outreach via association with a solid popular political leader, capable of building the Party through endorsements of candidates seeking seats in Congress and state legislatures across this country.
"Despite spending 20 percent of their cash on hand, the [Republicans were] unable to hold a seat easily won by President Bush and held by Speaker Hastert for 20 years," said Rep. Chris Van Hollen, chairman of the Democratic Congressional Committee.Van Hollen's Republican counterpart, Rep. Tom Cole, attributed Foster's victory to Sen. Barack Obama's popularity.

Maybe I haven't been paying close enough attention, but my knee-jerk response was that Hillary was alluding to her willingness to be Obama's VP candidate. Hillary's smart enough to count delegates, and she may see her best chance at the presidency is to run in 2016 after 8 years of being vice.
I wanted you to know, that I nominated you for Women's Voices Making History. Your blog is on my list of over 300 women blogging about politics, and I am currently going through it, and nominating blogs that I think are most worthy. Anyone can nominate a blogger, so if you have others you would like to nominate, all you have to do is go to the site at Women's Voices, Women Vote. :-)
Best,
Catherine
Oh Dave, HRC is playing a head game...she'll never let us see her blink, even IF she were thinking of the VP spot.
Don't ever think this woman does not want to win--take--the Presidency---ever....she is one ambitious babe who will use every option (trick) available, even if it means messing with your head.
Catherine--
Thanks so much--I'll check out the site...I always hope that someone out there is reading, pondering, listening...but to think my voice could be making history....well, you made my Sunday.
:)

. . . as usual a great post. I don't believe Hillary would ever take the bottom of the ticket. Her strategy is to imply that people can vote for her and they might just get Obama too...as veep. It's not working.
Someone on the morning talk shows today said they are going to have to strap her to a gurney and take her away with the men in white coats ala Britney Spears before she will concede to Obama. It's gonna get bloody.
SNL had a great skit last night about Hill and Obama . . . hope you got to see it.
Take care.
What a great image--out on a stretcher...ha ha....
No, I didn't see it...but here it is online...silly season stuff, but hey, if it weren't for comedians, we'd never would have made it through the last eight years...:)
