I Want to be Tina Turner

The Weekly Haboob
12/23/2006

Smashed Frog welcomes Inquisitive Geek readers!

When is a fibroid not a fibroid?

Ladies of a Certain Age know what I'm talking about.

These opportunistic "aliens" ride the perimenopausal estrogen express like kids ride Universal Studios' Incredible Hulk thrill ride.

Fibroid tumors are a sort of benign roller coaster, twisting and turning with a woman's hormonal surges. The buggers can become symptomatic and plunge a woman deep into the Land of Anemia.

Around that point, ladies drag themselves into the gyn's office, seeking relief, and may hear really scary words like like "fast growing" and "it's own blood supply" and hysterectomy.

Fibroids are almost always benign, or not cancerous, and they rarely turn into cancer (less than 0.1 percent of cases).

This fibroid hormonal fact did not prevent my medical professional from tossing the big "C" word into the conversation like a crouton on a much need iron-rich diet.

That's when it hit me.

I want to be Tina Turner.

The woman is a phenom. The face, the hair, the body, the infamous legs...yep, I'll take one of those.

To put it all in perspective...Tina was born in 1938.

Obviously, the gal is a Poster Child for great genes. But Tina-not only does she have a great bod, she's got great attitude.

With a capital A.

And that's what I want to be...a future sexy senior with a kicking 'tude.

With the mental image of Tina Turner implanted firmly in the Happy Place in my mind, I made a call on the specialist recommended by my gyn.

Those nasty fibroids appear to be just that-nasty little pain in the uterus fibroids.

With modern medical science seated waaaay in the back car, I'm roller coastin' my way to personal Phenom-Dom.

Thanks, Tina.

Revisiting Ted Bundy

7/6/2008

"...generations of the American people have surged through the Preamble's portal and widened its gate. Like constitutions, amendments are not just words, but deeds--flesh and blood struggles to redeem America's promise while making amends for some of the sins of our fathers."

Political Endurance Blogs

"The political blogs that may be the “best” of all, the most controversial, homespun, animated, original, creative and downright emotional spill from the 365-day-a-year bloggers. In this subdivision live blogs where big doses of commonsense social commentary are laced with searing political rants. Many are punctuated with posts on personal daily anecdotes, tragic and celebratory, virally propagated YouTube videos, and other miscellaneous content like a favorite recipe, baby and pet photos, and the general political-social sandwich which is daily life—take United States of Motherhood, for example. Blog traffic matters less here, up, down, or all around, many sites are enviable simply for their endurance and “balls-to-the-walls” earnestness: who cares who stops by, I’m speaking my mind regardless. If you’re ever in this neighborhood trip out on one of these popular and creative reads: Little Green Footballs, Smashed Frog and Betsy’s Page."
