The Foley Emails

ABC News

CHARGE MARK FOLEY UNDER THE ADAM WALSH ACT.

“The improper communications between Congressman Mark Foley and former House Congressional pages is unacceptable and abhorrent. It is an obscene breach of trust,” Hastert, R-Ill., Majority Leader John Boehner, R-Ohio, and Majority Whip Roy Blunt, R-Mo., said in a written statement Saturday evening. His immediate resignation must now be followed by the full weight of the criminal justice system.”

Foley Fallout

To Catch a Predator, 'er Mark Foley

To Lure a Page

"It would be a fascinating psychological study to try and understand how Foley could be both sending such emails to high schoolers while at the same time fighting against child predators. He is like the firefighter who turns out to also be an arsonist."--The Swamp, 10/1/2006

Foley won't get charged with anything. I heard one talking head today say that there was a possibility that Foley had fled the country. Also - he seems to have been careful when it came to age of consent. It's 16 in Washington DC. I don't know what it is in Florida or Virginia (the other states involved as I gather) - but down here in the south age of consent tends to be quite young. And the right-wing opinion mill is already working overtime on this. Brit Hume compared what Foley did with the Congressional Pages to Clinton’s affair with the adult Monica Lewinski. That’s the party line - compare it to Clinton - and try and make Clinton’s adultery seems worse than Foley's pederasty (and it is pederasty – no matter what the age of consent is!). That's how far politics has fallen in America - when even pederasts get the go-by because they're Republican. How bloody fucking sick is that?

Hey!

Moral Outrage posts links to consent laws...this link goes straight to DC's consent laws....

http://moraloutrage.net/staticpages/index.php?page=Washingtondc

If the "minor" had a significant relationship with the perp, then the DC consent suddenly becomes 18 years old.

The Adam Walsh Act-the federal law that Foley was so keen on bullying through the House-indicates 18 as the age of majoriy-nationwide.

Now, that could relate to child abuse or maybe not, but law enforcement can make that little clause mean exactly what they wish.

(And what exactly constitutes child abuse? I swear, most attorneys do NOT know the answer to that one!)

But you know how justice works for folks with cash...they can afford a different version of US law-but possibly, if Foley is charged, his case-if acquitted-might prove precedent setting for many people with less options regarding legal consult-a ruling that declare that mere words on a computer are just that...words protected by the first amendment.

Wouldn't that be ironic...the very laws that Foley helped to pass could be proven unconstitutional by his own legal case.

If he is smart, Foley is out of the country.

The Adam Walsh Act is one nasty piece of legislation. I hope it is repealed when Congress reconvenes after midterm elections.

What a great start that would be.

Sometimes folks just have to have faith that the House of Cards built by those who legislate morality will fall on its own...and this past week, that's exactly what happened.
